Living with Purpose: What You Do Matters to God
An abstract of Connor Kraus’ sermon on December 8, 2024, in the Galatians series. Watch the sermon video here.
Have you ever wondered if your everyday actions really make a difference? Maybe you've thought, "I'm a Christian, I'm saved, so the rest doesn't matter." Well, guess what? What you do TODAY actually shapes your TOMORROW—and not just in this life, but in eternity.
Life Is Like a Game of Hide and Seek
Imagine a little kid who thinks he's amazing at hide and seek, but he's actually terrible at it. He stands in the middle of a room, talking the whole time, believing he's invisible. Sounds silly, right? But adults can do something similar with their faith.
We sometimes trick ourselves into believing that our choices don't have real consequences. We think, "I'm saved, so what I do now doesn't really matter." But that's not true.
You Reap What You Sow
In Galatians 6:7-8, Paul uses a farming illustration that's super simple: You get out what you put in. If a farmer plants corn seeds, he doesn't expect to harvest apples. In the same way, the choices you make today are like seeds you're planting for your future.
Two Paths, Two Results
If you live focused on yourself (what the Bible calls "the flesh"), you'll end up disappointed.
If you live guided by God's Spirit, you'll experience amazing rewards—both now and later.
What Are These "Rewards" Anyway?
When we talk about rewards in heaven, it's not like getting a bonus at work. Think bigger! We're talking about:
Closer relationship with God
More opportunities to serve in His kingdom
Greater honor and purpose
God Sees Everything (And That's Good News!)
Here's the cool part: God sees ALL your efforts. Those secret acts of kindness? The times you helped someone without anyone knowing? God sees them. The prayers you've prayed in private. The moments you chose love when it was hard. God notices.
Don't Give Up
Maybe you're reading this and thinking, "I've messed up a lot." Great news: It's never too late to start making better choices. God hasn't given up on you, and you shouldn't give up on yourself.
Your Challenge
This week, try something different. Instead of asking, "What do I want?" ask, "What would God want?" Take one step toward living by the Spirit. Serve someone. Pray for a friend. Read your Bible. Share your faith.
Remember: What you do today creates your tomorrow. Make it count.
By God's grace, you can do amazing things.
